America your head's too big, because America, your belly's too big, and I love you, I just wish you'd stay where you is
In America, The land of the free they said, and of opportunity, in a just and a truthful way
But where the president is never black female or gay, and until that day, you've got nothing to say to me, to help me believe
In America, It brought you the hamburger, well America you know where you can shove your hamburger
And don't you wonder, why in Estonia they say, “Hey you, big fat pig, you fat pig, you fat pig” (..)

Tie ir vārdi no Morrissey dziesmas “America Is Not The World”. (Morrissey kādreiz līdz ar Johnny Marr un vēl dažiem bija The Smiths.) Lūk. Tikai tagad tajā kārtīgāk ieklausījos un gribēju sameklēt tai vārdus internetā. Tos gan man neizdevās atrast – pārāk ātri beidzu to darīt, jo to vietā atradu ko citu. Kādā forumā 2004. gada 29. decembrī bija publicēta daļa šīs dziesmas vārdu, vienkārši tā, bez paskaidrojuma, un ieraksta virsraksts bija dziesmas nosaukums – “America Is Not The World”. "Izkrāso pats", kā sacīt jāsaka.

Lūk. Pats ieraksts ta' nekas īpašs, bet komentāri.. Tie bija interesanti.

It saddens me to see that so many people get hung up on the spelling and grammer of a comment rather than the message, especially when the americans have bastardised the english language with their pronounciations and spellings.

One can understand the American government getting involved in areas of the world where there are American interests. Despite America's faults (and no I am not an American, I am from New Zealand), they are loyal to each other and patriotic to their country. What I cannot understand is them getting involved in issues half way around the world, without justification and without a request for help.

New Zealand classes America as an ally, and for that I am grateful, we are too small to do much on our own, but it is the choice of our government to maintain that relationship. America needs to defend their interests and help their friends and let the rest of the world do it their own way. Yes, the American government system has its advantages, but I hate it when Americans try and push that model on everybody else. Look at a country like Saudi Arabia - no taxes, government funded schools and hospitals, relative freedom for all people, no obesity issues, and not an election in sight.

It would be cool if we americans didn't act like such juvinile assholes in these forums. Maybe then the rest of the world would make the necessary distinction between american policy and american people. Too many loud mouthed rednecks not following the teachings of a God they claim to believe in.

It's happened time and time again, all across histroy. Babylon, Greek, Rome, British, and soon, America...

Empires are made to crumble. All it takes is a few asshat leaders to fuck up the whole operation. Democracy doesn't save you from that, as the last election proved.

Kevin, Americans say aluminum as you have spelled it, unfortunately the rest of the world says it and spells it Aluminium.

It is unfortunate that people generalise things to the entire US population, but it is not just your politicians that screw it up for you. A few years ago I was walking into a McDonalds restaurant in Rome to use their bathrooms after having a delcious pasta meal alfresco on the pavement of a little side street. As I walked in, two American women walked out, McDonalds paper bags in hand, and one turned to the other and said, "I wonder what these Italians did before they had our McDonalds?" I live in New Zealand, and another example is that I met a man from the US in NZ who told me that when he told friends and family he was coming to NZ, they thought that NZ was connected to Australia by the Sydney harbour bridge. Please don't misinterpret this by thinking that I think all Americans are like this. I have met some lovely American people who are intelligent, open minded, good people, but from my experience they are in the minority.

As for your being pedantic about who an American is, it is generally acccepted that people from the US are called Americans. It is easier to say than 'Citizen of the United States of America'.

devildog, you think i dont know that? and how exactly was my way of life being protected in vietnam? or how about now in iraq? or anything inbetween basically. despite what our esteemed presidents since then have said, none of those conflicts have had ANYTHING to do with protecting our freedoms. the reason i want to move to canada is that it has not yet degenerated into a corporate aristocracy (or facism as my dad's co-worker puts it). conservative america is being run by companies that can afford to rig the polls, buy votes, buy the best lawyers, buy a court decision, or buy the next president. no soldier since world war 2 has truly served america. instead they have served enron, halliburton, exxon-mobil, mcdonalds, microsoft, ford, general motors, daimler-chrysler, etc... as a former soldier you should know this better than anybody. i read ALOT of military memiors so dont lecture me about respect for veterans. my grandfathers both served in WW2 and i have more respect for them than for any man or woman that ever existed. i want to escape america because there is no fathomable way to undo the damage that bush has done to this once great nation.

what we need is the 60's all over again to create another shift back to liberalism. maybe can make a come-back too...
