An east Des Moines house on the market has an underground surprise. The house is for sale on Dubuque Ave by S&G Reality. And it comes with a unique feature - a bomb shelter.
It was built in 1962 during the height of the cold war by a Latvian immigrant who moved here after WWII. It comes complete with a periscope, blast doors, escape hatches, a well, toilet, and food bins all designed to store enough supplies for up to a year.
