For Krüger, Heidegger's re-raising the question of being pointed to the importance of ontology, which involved theological and moral as well as strictly philosophical issues. For Strauss, Heidegger's "destruktion" of the Western philosophical tradition had made it possible for the first time in centuries to perceive its true roots, and thus opened up the possibility of a genuine return to classical philosophy.
