On 4 December 1940, Reinhold Sautter, the Supreme Church Councillor of the Württemberg State Church, complained to the Nazi Ministerial Councillor Eugen Stähle for the murders in the Grafeneck Castle. Stähle said: "The fifth commandment Thou shalt not kill is no 'commandment of God' but a Jewish invention".
