grāmata, kurā desmit nodaļās tiek raksturotas dažādas mūsdienu Ķīnas šķautnes. katrai nodaļai savs vārds, kas saistās ar "karsto tematu".

pilna ar īsiem pastāstiem iz dzīves (iz nodaļas "nevienlīdzība"):

"A jobless couple, the daughter is in primary school. She comes down with a fever, forehead scolding hot, she asks them to take her to the doctor. They have no money, they tell her, they have to go out and look for work; they don't have time. She understands, she says, just borrow a little money from a neighbor, she'll go see the doctor herself. Her father tells her mother to borrow the money, and she tells him the same; they start to argue. They've gotten so many loans and never have been able to pay them back, so they can't face the prospect of having to ask for more. Nevermind, the girl says, she doesn't have to see the doctor.  tiek pirmā vieta, jo iedvesmoja mani painteresēties par Ķīnu un tās vēsturi, un šī interese vēl joprojām nav apsīkusi. 

par Pinčonu nespēju neko sakarīgu pateikt, lai gan esmu izlasījis trīs grāmatas. starp citu, tūlīt viņš būs mega populārs, jo iznāks filma Inherent Vice (Latvijā gan tikai aprīlī, bļad).
laba sagatave tam, kas ir Pinčons, ir viņa The Crying of Lot 49 - konspirācija par kādu alternatīvu pasta kompāniju ar arhaiskām saknēm. Tāpat varbūt var ko nojaust arī no 1/2 GR teikuma:

"A screaming comes across the sky. It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now."

jebkurā gadījumā, līdzīgi kā ar China in Ten Words, Gravity's Rainbow mani uz kaut ko pavilka, ieinteresēja. šajā gadījumā - dziļāk ienirt amerikāņu romānu pasaulē, kuru cenšos padarīt par savu (tas notiek drusku par lēnu).

lieku reizi atgādina grieķu pasaules raibumu, kā arī konstanti kaunina par manu nezināšanu. tiešām labs tulkojums. diemžēl nav pie rokas, tāpēc nevaru nocitēt.

pārējās neaprakstīju, jo ņehuj palagus rakstīt. 

kopumā šis gads ir bijis slinks, taču esmu lasījis daudz preses. 

nākošgad gribu, lai esmu spējīgs sastādīt "2015. gadā izdoto grāmatu topu".
