there was a murder at the zoo
we tried to talk to them
to no avail
nothing, there was nothing we could do
a life was taken
all animals, all cages rattled, shaken
rattlesnakes have taken over premises,
a crime-scene unaproachable,
animals unpoachable
overtaken by fright
all birds took flight to tumble back
into the rumble
humble herbivores
have started wars
by police command we've locked all doors
but someone's missing
somebody died,
someone was murdered
inside that zoo
was it animal or human,
was it somebody I knew?
we're trying now to talk to them,
the raging beasts,
and all to no avail
there's nothing we can do
about this murder, about this murder at the zoo
