For me, class or access to money wasn't a factor as it was something we did in our freetime. If we had had to pack in our day jobs, then... well maybe. But that (going full-time) is a step that would have happened organically. We considered it once - after a tour and a relatively big indie-label interest - but it didn't happen. As for class, well the groups I played in were a mixture of working class and middle class kids. For example Ray Speedway was me (middle class son of a pub landlord), the son of a single mum on a council estate, and the son of a single mum and his builder step-dad. The main thing was imagination, a little intelligence, and interest - access to cash or a stable life really didn't have anything much to do with it at all.
