you're right in that the Banshees gained infamy for Siouxsie's sporting of the swastika at their first gig at the 100 Club Punk festival (and Siouxise sporting it at early Pistols gigs). Funnily enough, at the 100 Club show, the nascent Banshees were due to use the Clash's gear at this show, but after the Clash (and specifically the Jewish Mick Jones) took umbrage, they had to make do to with Subway Sect's gear. Once they relaunced as a proper band six months later, the swastikas had been dropped for a more "gothic Bowie/Bolan" look.

Where the Banshees really put their foot in it though was the first version of "Love In A Void", with the line "Too many Jews for my liking" (I've heard this in the very first demo the Banshees recorded - the "Track Records" demo). This received instant derision/digust in the press, and one of the Banshees put their foot in it further by try to explain this line as being about "too many, like, fat businessmen or whatever" (Jesus, talk about digging a bigger hole to yourself!). The wise head of their first manager Nils Stevenson prevailed, demanding that this line (or indeed the whole song) be dropped, and pointing out exactly why it was so offensive to all and sundry. The song survived, with the line being changed to "too many whacks for my liking" (as heard on the first Peel session), and later being changed again on the official single release by Polydor, as "too many bigots for my liking".
