Vellus hairs are short, fine, light colored, and barely noticed, as compared with terminal hair.[1] Vellus hair is usually less than 2 mm (1/13 inch) long and the follicles are not connected to sebaceous glands. It is most easily observed in women and children, as they have less terminal hair to obscure it.
