I love the concept of the fully electric vehicle, but I also realize that the actualization of that is decades away.
The push for it now is only done for nefarious purposes:
# It restricts our freedom of travel by lacking proper infrastructure in rural areas and taking longer to fuel up the car.
# They are more expensive to own and maintain, meaning fewer people can afford them.
# They are inferior to gas-driven cars in almost every way, except for creature comforts. (This goes double in the colder parts of the world.)
# It benefits China economically, and allows it to bolster its market globally and establish a monopoly a la OPEC. (They control 90%+ of the world's lithium supplies.)
# As they're electrical they're also electronic, allowing outside parties to seize control of them. The term 'kill-switch' has been mentioned in this regard, and the term actually has two meaning when it comes to EVs - the government can turn off your car remotely, and they can also take control of it and use it as a weapon (see: Anne Heche).
