Orders from the Government: The police should be trained to be kinder to immigrants

DOMESTIC. The Government have declared that Järvapolisen in Stockholm will, through a new education, learn how to treat immigrants in the suburbs as "people with dreams" and not as a "problem", says P4 Stockholm.
The police in the Järva area in Stockholm, which includes suburbs such as Rinkeby, Tensta, Kista, Husby and Akalla, will undergo a new education to learn how to become more human in how they view the residents of the districts.
The aim is to increase trust between the police and those living in the immigrant-tight neighborhoods.
- "We want all police officers to feel that people who live in the area are people with their own dreams and goals. We do not want the police to see people as problems or people who cause problems", says Niklas Andersson, Järva Police Chief, to P4 Stockholm.
The training has previously been conducted in countries such as the USA and Denmark.
An immigrant girl whom Swedish Radio speaks to says that she has learned to view the police as an "extreme threat" in their handling of people in the suburb. Another immigrant explains that people who do not like "foreign people" should not work in the policeforce.

Library smashed to pieces in Kristianstads immigrant ghetto

DOMESTIC. The library in the immigrant ghetto of Gamlegården in Kristianstad has been severely vandalized during the New Year weekend and therefore cannot keep open anymore. When it opens again is unclear, if ever, according to Kristianstadsbladet.
Gamlegården has long been one of Kristianstad's worst immigrant ghettos. During the New Year weekend, the area was hit by several riots where so-called "youths" started fires and threw fireworks at the police.
The city's politicians have previously "rewarded" the riots in Gamlegården by building a new outdoor swimming pool for SEK 22 million, which is completely free for all residents to use.
This friendly gesture by the state was repaid by the inhabitants through the theft of tools for hundreds of thousands of kronor already during the construction period. Then, when the bathhouse was finished, every night, "young people" from both Gamlegården and the nearby fellow immigrant ghetto Österäng went there to vandalize it continually.
The destruction is so great that the library is now forced to stay close.
- "That's sad what happened. Books and shelves have been smashed and broken and there is glass inside the whole room. The shelves must be repaired along with the dozen windows and the premises cleaned properly. Small children crawling on the floor can be injured by the glass” says Pernilla Tomasson, assistant library manager in Kristianstad, to Kristianstadsbladet on Thursday.
It is unclear when the library will open again, if ever.
