DOMESTIC. The Swedish Democrats are now looking to get through a proposal in Trelleborg that states that anyone who wants a job within the municipality must shake hands, says Trelleborg's Allehanda.
Shaking hands may seem like something natural and obvious. But as Islam has become increasingly strong in Sweden, it has become a problem. This is because some Muslim men of tradition do not want to shake hands with women.
But anyone who wants to get a job in the municipality of Trelleborg must shake hands, according to a motion from the Swedish Democrats.
The proposal states that anyone who "for religious or cultural reasons refuses to greet the opposite sex through traditional handshaking" should not be able to get any employment in any municipality SD controls.
The party has also previously put such an exercise, but received no.
However, the municipality now has a new board: the Moderates and the Christian Democrats, with the support of the SD.
The Social Democrats and Liberals must have voted against proposals, while the Moderates and Sweden Democrats voted for. KD abstained, which means that M and SD have a majority to get through the proposal. This is despite being alleged to violate the constitutionally protected religious freedom.
