"The idea of transgenderism or androgyny always pops up in the late phase of a culture, be it the hellenistic period, the roman empire, the Mauve Decade, Weimar Gemany etc. The bitter irony being that the people who live in such times feel very sophisticated and cosmopolitan. From historical distance however you can see though that it's a culture that no longer believes in itself. It's a telltale sign for an incoming cultural collapse."
