On this day in 1967, Israel attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 American sailors and wounding 174 more. They then tried to blame it on the Egyptians, hoping America would join in their war. This was not the first time, nor would it be the last, that Israel perpetrated a false flag operation against its closest ally, the United States.
