Now i'm actually glad that we're piss poor and have no wellfare system to speak of. Not many hearts, especially of none-white persuasion, will want to come here.

Well I am a migrant (we call ourselves ex-pats for some reason). Might write about it if I have time. I also knew one of those guys who were aviation students from Africa he mentions - he taught me some French - nice, unassuming quiet guy).

Keeping strangers away from your porch - okay, but I have heard what locals said about their kids in their presence ('didn't know monkeys could swim' and so on). Kind of disgusting.

Yes, that's as low brow as it gets and comes from actual real 'bauri', 'pāķi', the extreme low IQ end of our own population. They would be as profane and obnoxious on any subject, not just strange looking foreigners. Doesn't mean everybody should support open boarders and dilution of titular nations to spite them though.

Kad es pirmo reiz Rīgā (un savā dzīvē) ieraudzīju nēģeri (un vēl blakus baltajai sievietei), es 5 minūtes skatījos, kā uz spoku, jo iepriekš biju redzējis tikai kaukāziešus tirgū, un vjetnamiešus Purvciema kojās. LV nav UK, ar rasu daudzveidību, bet rasists stīls 20 gadu laikā to nav sapratis / pieņēmis, un izteikti "kož rokā" sabiedrībai, kas viņu visumā ir pieņēmusi...

GS is a depressive guy - always on the look out for offence, so I agree with you on that. I could write an essay on him, but now is not the time.

I would say, though, there are other guys I know who are far more upbeat and 'understanding', who had more than just stares. African teammates who were either beaten up in train stations or chased through the streets. That kind of thing, of course, doesn't happen so much anymore, and, to be fair, also white foreigners would be targeted too on the way home after a few beers (one yank friend had a broken jaw, my boss had a gun in his mouth (98) for a laugh, apparently), and there were several other muggings). The difference is the black guys were beaten for who they were, and the white guys were beaten for money.
