Emma Jones
Gardener
A kind of anxious man
one day rose from the dead
and walked to the nearest town
where the women were playing bingo
and the TV's chorused quietly.
And he asked "What happened?
What am I, and where have I been?"
One citizen could see he was honest,
and cleared the room above his garage,
and made this man his gardener.
All day now this man will sit
on a ride-on mower, in fictive America,
and groom the grass in rows,
and hear the cuttings rot,
and the bees blaze in the trees.
