Dear Ivan,

I started to work with Danish phytoplankton, and it seems that there is some misunderstanding on units or calculation.

I summed up the biomasses and compared to chl values, for example:

mean of 1 May - 1 October, 2 samplings pr month

RAVNSØ1999 - phytoplankton biomass 33,5 mg/l (chl 8,4) BRYRUP LANGSØ, 1999 - 153,1 mg/l (chl 30,7 ) SØBY SØ, MIDTJYLLAND, 1999 - 13,2 mg/l(chl 11,6) ENGELSHOLM SØ, 1999 - 87,4 mg/l (chl 38,95) DAMHUSSØEN, 2003 - 21,1 mg/l (chl 8,2) BAGSVÆRD SØ, 1999 - 251,9 mg/l (chl 101,8)

It seems that these are too high biomasses (~ 10 x higher than it would be normal comparing to chl values) and don`t correspond to chl values

Generally these lakes are in eutrophic range (according to chl and P) and phytoplankton biomasses normally should be 1-10 mg/l For highly trophic lakes (BAGSVÆRD SØ, 1999) over 10 mg/l

Or maybe I made some mistake ?

Hope that there is only some slight misunderstanding.

Best wishes
Snorke
