My opinion has always been that any war is a terrible and unjustified thing.
On the other hand it creates economic benefits for certain people and even countries...
In short, my take is that West is more responsible for current situation than Russia.
All that rhetoric that Ukraine has become democratic or at least more democratic than Russia
is just pure bullshit and quite clearly shows how aggressive and imperialistic Western policy really is.
(And it starts looking increasingly similar to Syria where both Russia and US were waging a proxy war, ruining everything and
now that is going to shift to Ukraine with quite foreseeable consequences.)
Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Russia, it is very dangerous and will make advantage of any weakness that either Latvia or EU or US shows.
But if I have to choose between Russia that "occupies" Ukraine or full-blown proxy war then I choose former with no regrets.
All those war-monging people and I mean not presidents but "ordinary" people who call for "protection of democratic values" - they just have no idea what a war is.
Let's not forget that stupidity, corruption and ignorance created the current situation in Eastern Ukraine where majority of people are Russians and show support for Russian troops.
It is Ukraine who is responsible for that. They did not let those Russian dominated regions go and now we already have more than 10k casualties in direct combat...
Latvia is just one step away from such situation, too. Latgale, the eastern part Latvia, which has majority of non-Latvian population and is generally friendly to Russia, has always been neglected by Latvian government,
economically and culturally and is ripe for Russia to exploit and create another Donbas or Moldova or Abhazia or Osetia.
Yes, it is Russia that takes advantage of such situations, but it is a prime duty of any government to protect it's country and not let such conflicts and tensions to develop.
