It is a revised version of Super CoolScan LS-2000 film scanner with some of its features scaled back to make an affordable unit for those who does not need some of its high features.This film and slide scanner can produce a high quality image of good color and tone, even without adjusting the default scan setting. It also comes with powerful scanning-control software that enables you to adjust the tone and color of the image. With the digital ICE technology, it allows you to retouch your image by helping you spot-out all the dust and scratches and remove it from your slide.It uses variable-focus optics. The auto-focus mechanism lets you adjust film thickness and position automatically. Not only that, it will also allow you to choose where you want to perform your auto-focus.The minimum scan time is about 20 seconds. If you want a faster result, you will have to turn off all the other features, such as the ICE technology.It uses a LED (light emitting diode) light source to produce excellent resolution and a more detailed image.Some of the features in LS-2000 were dropped to make the LS-30 more affordable. The number of bits in digitization in LS-30 was lowered to only 10 bits per channel from the original 12 bits. This affects scanner accuracy, especially accuracy in color. It is not that good in scanning underexposed slides or overexposed films as compared to the LS-2000. This version does not let perform multi-sample arranging, the process of making multiple copy of the image to reduce ?noise?. It does not allow post-scan manipulation.
