That's what I told him when he asked me for 15 lats for his etalon (I'm writing in English because it's more productive). I thought it was 7 lats something I told him. He said it was, but now it's more. I told him he could walk to school. He said it is 12 km. I asked him what he wanted an education for anyway. The most productive thing he could do was train to be a croupier in a casino - failing that he could learn English and fuck off to Ireland, where he would be a sight more productive. I asked him if they had an English teacher - he said that although they hadn't had one for a while (or a geography teacher for that matter), they have got one now. He asked me if being a school teacher was productive. I told him that they are a burden and I explained to him that he should consider becoming an economist because even 'below average economics students are above average citizens'.
He asked me if they were productive. I told him to go to school because he was wasting my time.

That's what I told her when she started moaning about 'not knowing what she's going to do with herself'. For Christ's sake, these pension-aged in-laws are a drag. 'You have' I told her 'wasted half your life working in the hospital and now it's made you ill - kāds parsteigums!' I explained to her that she was another burden and I explained to her that her bloody generation hadn't/haven't been productive and have, therefore, got what they deserve - a 70 percent cut in their working pension. It is a good thing you are too ill and old to work I told her.

par pensionāriem es piebildīšu, ka tie simti tūkstošu cilvēku, kas saradās Latvijā un Rīgā klāt astoņdesmitajos gados (PSRS laikos vairākkārtīgi notika galveno pilsētu teritoriālā paplašināšanāš, saistībā ar iedzivotāju skaita pieauguma prognozēm, kas, btw, mazāk uz dzimstības, vairāk uz ievesta darbaspēka un viņu ģimeņu rēkina, tika arī realizēts...) un 90`-2000šajos gados nonāk pensionāra statusā, tiesa, pensiju ir jāmaksā Latvijai ar tās, khm, khm, vairs neesošo ražošanu, nevis, piemēram, Krievijai, kuras ietvaros savulaik tika strādāts....
Piemēram, Vācija vel jorpojām veciem onkām un tantēm, kas savulaik dīpīšu nometnēs par tulkiem strādāja, maksā mazu, bet tomēr pensiju (~2-6 darba gadi)....

Es saprotu, bet man liekas, ka Latvija arii (ie)mantoja infrakstrukturu, kas tika ieviesta/attistiita padomju laikaaa.

It's hard enough for us to think about ensuring we have something put away for illness/old age/education for ourselves - both materially (I am a father of two and tici man, there is bugger all left after the bills have been paid) and with regard to perception (we live, more or less, for the present).

It's even harder to think about ensuring (via taxation/income redistribution) that other people have enough when ill/old/unemployed.

From you first piebilde, it's even harder to think about ensuring people from another country who were sent here have enough when old/ill etc.

I think it's got very little to do with 'productivity' - I think this is a convenient excuse - it helps us overlook our 'pofismu'.
