Sucks.

I naturally wonder what happens if you give them the finger instead of your time and money (besides, making that amount of money might easily take several months by itself). With a supportive family it seems like a psychologically viable and morally justified path to pursuit. But that might be just me - I tend to frown upon compliance with unjust orders (give me your money! go sit in this cage! get someone else to drive you around!), although the scare-tactics of the ruling class are, no doubt, intimidating.

Anyway, it's bullshit. Bullshit is what it is.

Well, that would be a decision he would have to take for himself. If he isn't confident, then, it is not a good idea. He ignored them for a few months, but they got on his case, and he he decided to just get it over with --- having said that, yes, I see where you are coming from - they can always say he turned up for incarceration of his own free will.

BTW, if you may be so generous as to satisfy my selfish inquiry: do they shave the captive's head upon such incarceration?
It would suck to get locked up for 10 days and spend the next 5 years just growing your hair back. :D
