"There are clear disparities in how pain is managed between men and women, but we haven’t seen a clear biological difference in the use of their endogenous systems before now,” said Zeidan. “This study provides the first clear evidence that sex-based differences in pain processing are real and need to be taken more seriously when developing and prescribing treatment for pain.”
The researchers conclude that by tailoring pain treatment to an individual’s sex, it may be possible to improve patient outcomes and reduce the reliance on and misuse of opioids.

Despite being highly confident that they can understand the minds of people with opposing viewpoints, the assumptions humans make about others are often wrong, according to new research from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London, in partnership with the University of Oxford. // King's College London

» Nedaudz palags no Umberto Eko sestdienas vakaram |
Speaking twenty-two years ago, when the phenomenon of the south-to-north global migration had not yet taken on today’s epic proportions, Eco predicted that, in the new Millennium, Europe would be witnessing a great cultural métissage, similar to the one that had occurred in New York at the start of the 20th century or, even earlier in some Latin American countries– a movement that “no racist and no nostalgic reactionary” could have prevented.
The fundamental point of Eco’s public reflection was that of the distinction between the concepts of “immigration” and “migration”; the first, he argued, occurs when a group of individuals, “even many individuals, but in numbers that are statistically insignificant with respect to the indigenous stock,” move from one country to another. Such a movement – according to Eco – may be controlled politically, limited or encouraged, according to the needs of the receiving country. The process of migration, on the other hand, would be comparable to those found in nature: “They occur and no one can control them”.
“We have migration,” declared Eco, “when an entire people, little by little, moves from one territory to another, and what matters is not how many remain in the original territory, but to what extent migrants change the culture of the territory to which they migrate.” He then offered examples of some of the great migrations of the past: from east to west, “as a result of which the peoples of the Caucasus changed the culture and biological heritage of the natives”; those of the so-called “barbarian” peoples who invaded the Roman Empire, creating new kingdoms and new cultures; or the case of European migration to the American continent.

Neviens no mums viņu nejūt, neviens no mums viņu nejūt, neviens no mums viņu nejūt.

Tie cilvēki, kas Putina vietā nonāks pie varas, būs spiesti atbildēt īstajai, nevis iedomātajai Krievijai, un tie, kuri šobrīd ir izbēguši no Krievijas, īstajai Krievijai nebūs vajadzīgi. Nu, vērot no malas to būs ļoti interesanti, lai gan nepatīkami.

Es te šobrīd vairāk citātus, vnk ir šis tas uzradies pēdējā laikā, jāpieraksta, lai nepazūd.But many people say they have tried meditation and failed. Here are some common complaints about meditation:
I can’t do it. My mind wanders. I can’t sit still. I can’t concentrate that long. I fall asleep. I have too many noisy thoughts.
If your first attempt or first several attempts at meditation resulted in any of these thoughts, then congratulations — you’ve meditated!
Many people perceive meditation as a magical moment of transformation. But meditation isn’t about perfection. It’s about awareness. Being aware that your mind wanders, that you’re tired, that you can’t sit still, that your mind is racing — that’s the point of meditation.

No šī viedokļa:Notice the five senses.
Start by taking a few calming breaths.
Now, see five things around you. It can be items on your desk such as a lamp, a notepad and a pen, or trees and rocks as you take a walk.
Touch four things — the fabric of your clothes, a book, a leaf, the cat.
Hear three things. Notice a dog barking, the click of a keyboard, laughter in the break room.
Smell two things. Sniff the air, the detergent smell that lingers on your clothes.
Taste one thing. End your meditation with a bite of chocolate, a piece of fruit or a treat from the office candy dish. P.S. Atkarībā no tā, vai to ir viegli uztaisīt un vadīt, šis varētu būt the next big thing un riktīgi pamainīt, kā un kas notiek pasaulē pēc, teiksim, kādiem 15-20 gadiem:
Scientists at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) have developed a programmable metafluid with tunable springiness, optical properties, viscosity and even the ability to transition between a Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid.
The first-of-its-kind metafluid uses a suspension of small, elastomer spheres — between 50 to 500 microns — that buckle under pressure, radically changing the characteristics of the fluid. The metafluid could be used in everything from hydraulic actuators to program robots, to intelligent shock absorbers that can dissipate energy depending on the intensity of the impact, to optical devices that can transition from clear to opaque.

At this point I'd figured out what you need to put in grant proposal to get the money. And that's what I did.
I applied for grants on research projects, because it was a way to make money, not because I thought it would leave an impact in the history of science.
It's not that what I did was somehow wrong. It was and still is, totally state of the art.
I did what I said I'd do in the proposal, I did the calculation, I wrote the papers, I wrote the reports, and the reports were approved. Normal academic procedure.
But I knew it was bullshit, just as most of the work in that area is currently bullshit and just as most of academic research that your taxes pay for is almost certainly bullshit.
The real problem I had, I think, is that I was bad at lying to myself.
