Metallica movie third greatest ever
Metallica's 2004 documentary, Some Kind Of Monster, has been named the third greatest rock movie of all time by Blender magazine, according to the Associated Press. The magazine's "100 Greatest Rock And Roll Movies Of All Time" has the classic This Is Spinal Tap topping the list, followed by Saturday Night Fever at Number Two. The list is due out in the magazine's November issue.
Some Kind Of Monster chronicled the turbulent making of Metallica's 2003 album, St. Anger, during which the group nearly disintegrated due to internal problems. Guitarist Kirk Hammett told us that he's rarely heard anything negative from Metallica fans about the sometimes unflattering way the film portrays the band:
"Hardly anyone comes up to me and, you know, has anything negative to say. Most people just come up to me and say, 'God, you know, I can't believe what you guys went through and now I understand why St. Anger sounds the way it is and why it is the way it is, and what took you guys so long, and what you've been doing during that time.' I really am glad that the movie fills in a lot of gaps."
Other notable entries on the Blender list include Purple Rain at Number Four, Almost Famous at Number Five, the Eminem biopic 8 Mile at Number 14 and Grease at Number 19.
In other Metallica news, an autographed copy of the band's deluxe scrapbook, So What! The Good, The Mad, and The Ugly, is being auctioned on eBay. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Step Up Women's Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing community resources for underprivileged women and girls.
