You think Obama is in charge?
Seriously?

of course not as one person. the structure is in charge.

Okay and what comprises the structure? the Bank of International settlements - the Federal Reserve, Wall Street? - the independent central bank system - the City of London? The lodges of the City of London (in whose square mile there is the heaviest density in the World)?

Do you concur? What else could you add there?

well, does it really matter? it's like structural racism - which takes places by the actions of otherwise completely normal people...

or are you trying to find "real" power centers?

Sorry - are you suggesting that, for example, the Bank of International Settlements just originated organically from the needs of otherwise completely normal people?

Sounds absurd.

You are a journalist, as far as I understand. You write ans speak about politics. Would you agree that money is one of the (if not THE) most important factors in any analysis of politics (political economy if you like). That is a rhetorical question, of course, so
a) Do you understand how money is created and by whom?
b) Do you understand how much democratical control there is over this process?
c) Do you know which organisations control this process?
d) Do you know the results of independent audits of these organisations? [this might be a trick question]

If you don't know the answers to these questions, I would recommend removing the quotation marks around the use of "real" and do some research.

If that comes across as a little aggressive, please excuse me - I am a calm bloke in reality, and am open to discussing all this in pleasant terms over a beer.

i do agree it's about money. regarding money i fully agree with analysis of david graeber (basically money is debt). and organizations, well, the ones that you mentioned, of course...

problem - we are all involved in this somehow. so either play the game or... i dunno what.

p.s. about independent audits - no haven't heard of those, and then again i do not believe any audits can be independent.

Let's go for finding an answer to "I dunno what." because we are not playing the game: we are being played. I remember you being one of the panel at a "Whither the Left?" debate held in that trendy cultural centre. You do realise, don't you, that the participating left wing economist was an apprentice of Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis? I sat next to both of them at an SSE Crayfish party in 2007 and had a lively debate. If you remember last year I wanted to know what he (our left wing saviour) had to say on the role of the monetary system.. which was nothing. See, it was the left wing Fabians who pushed for full independence of the Bank of England, and it is their right wing (ha ha) counterparts like Vjaceslavs, who state that one of the fundamental pillars of a democracy should be a....fully independent central bank.

You are given the right and you are given the left. When you realise that, the standard politcal debate (which you both generate and participate in) appears, as it in fact is, just senseless guff.

Just to add - the Bank of International Settlements, set up in Switzerland (surprise!) before WWII has never been audited.

So, the central organisation of the world's independent central banks (under no democratic control and which control the creation of money) has never been audited, and yet we have economists who have the astounding audacity to pretend to know what is going on.

Now THERE is a story.
