Pilnīgi cita ainava 40. gadu otrajā pusē pavērās latviešu teātra kritikā. Kara beigās emigrācijā bija devušies 20. un 30. gadu i e v ē r o j a m ā k i e [izcēlums mans] teātra kritiķi Jēgere-Freimane un Bērziņš, bet R. Kroders un K. Strauts atradās izsūtījumā Sibīrijā. Recenzijas par teātri rakstīja samērā daudzi - J. Grots, A. Čaks, J. Pabērzs, I. Kacs, L. Gurevičs, N. Nikolajevs-Bergins, O. Brikšķis, A. Brandts, L. Ļesnaja un citi. Taču runāt par vienotu teātra kritiku [vtk labprāt izceltu] kā profesionālu literatūras nozari [pln - arī] grūti divu cēloņu dēļ. Pirmkārt, šo rakstītāju vidū bija maz profesionālu teātra kritiķu [whatever that means], lielākoties tie bija dzejnieki un plaša profila žurnālisti, kuri rakstīja par daudz ko un teātri cita starpā. Otrkārt, pats galvenais - tā laika latviešu rakstītāji par teātri maksāja lielas ideoloģiskas nodevas "pareizajam kursam", bija pazaudējuši demokrātisko un kultūras sargātāja orientāciju [dukso - labprāt izceltu]. Tātad atšķirībā no Maskavas teātra kritikas Latvijā nebija ko d r a g ā t.
