the spanish mission and presidio at San Francisko were founded un 1776. Louis Choris, a Frenchman, made this lithograph of Indians dancing outside the California mission of San Francisco in 1813. He may have based his work on an earlier painting that has now dissapeared. The priests watch from the left in fron of the mission, a characteristically low building made of sun-dried bricks coveeed with stucco.
