The Vbeam® Perfecta is a pulsed-dye laser that produces a gentle burst of light to treat vascular, red skin lesions.  HOW IT WORKS

The Vbeam perfecta is a treatment that delivers pulses of light to the target areas, such asd red blood cells/vessels in the skin. This light is converted to heat energy, which fades those specific targets resulting in a more even, brighter complexion with less discoloration. The Vbeam has been performed by our UAB Dermatologist for over 8 years for many different ailments of the skin.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Most patients tolerate the treatment without comfort measures. However, a numbing cream can be applied before if desired. Goggles to protect the eyes are important during this treatment. The sensation can be likened to snapping a hot rubber band on the skin. The treatment can take less than 2 minutes and sometimes 30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Patients can experience bruising at the sites treated, and this can last 3 days to two weeks depending on the strength of the treatment needed. Occasionally some mild puffiness can occur, which will subside over the next 12 hours. Rarely, blistering and crusting can occur. This can lead to scarring if picked or rubbed aggressively.

WHEN TO RESUME NORMAL ACTIVITIES

You may resume your normal activities immediately following the procedure, including applying makeup.

RESULTS

Typically 1-2 weeks after the treatment, the area is less red or purple than it was before the treatment. Repeated treatments result in brighter, more even toned, younger looking skin.

RECOMMENDED SESSIONS

We recommend 3 sessions, one month apart, for most conditions. Some people will require more, some will require less. For rosacea that is uncontrolled, maintenance every 6-12 months can keep vessels away. This treatment can be paired with IPL, dermaplaning, Hydrafacial, or light chemical peels to remove the dead surface layer after the Vbeam treatment.

POSSIBLE DOWNTIME

• Bruising for 7-14 days

• Possible swelling around the treated area for 12 – 24 hours

POST-TREATMENT CARE

• Wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure to reduce recurrence of redness
