Glimpt: We spent the autumn of 2012 in Peru working and learning from the Crafts Cooperative, Artesanos Don Bosco, a continuation of our work with craftsmen and women from different countries. Before our trip we had not fully appreciated how extensive this organisation was. Artesanos Don Bosco is part of a large Italian voluntary organisation called Operazione Mato Grosso. This organisation was founded in the 1960s by Father Hugo, a Catholic missionary priest who saw there was a need to help poor farmers in the Andes. Now, some fifty years later, Operazione Mato Grosso has roughly 2000 Italian volunteers and employs about twice as many Peruvians. The work involves educating and training people in the remote villages in the Andes, and then creating employment opportunities for them there. The idea is to encourage people to stay and work in these isolated areas rather than move to a very uncertain future in Lima, something that many Peruvians otherwise are tempted to do.
Operazione Mato Grosso promotes the virtues of a simple, unhurried life, living and working in cooperation with one another. They have started schools, orphanages, hospitals and even power stations that provide electric power in the mountains. All this is free of charge for the poor.

Canadian graphic designer Andrew Knapp once drew attention to the fact that his Border collie Momo hiding with a stick in his mouth, instead of returning it. The Find Momo website offers a great way to kill time as he plays the game really well. Some of the photos will have people swearing he’s not in them. Knapp’s keen eye for landscapes also helped him create photographs people actually want to look at – with Momo or without. Still, the dog proves to be an eye-catching addition to his images. Good to know Momo still has his paws firmly planted in the dirt — unless of course you’re wearing a sombrero, in which case he’ll be a foot off the ground while running away.

Menswear still seems a little boring, because there are like 100 designers doing the same things, but this allows some designers to surprise us. Carven‘s Artistic Director, Guillaume Henry consistently manages to meld the often expected elements of classical menswear, with his own offbeat approach and design elements. Presented in a corporate-like stage set, his men’s office wardrobe was a stunning visual display of bold prints and traditional fabrics. Despite everything that is going on, there seems to be an unmistakable simplicity about the whole collection which is most fitting of a modern businessman, except for the daring suit pants which literally falls short. | 10:03p | Philippines Dog Kabang Returns Home after Face Surgery A dog that lost half her face saving two girls from an oncoming motorcycle has returned to the Philippines after eight months of treatment in the US. The mixed-breed dog, Kabang, lost her snout and upper jaw in the incident in December 2011. The hero dog jumped into the path of a motorcycle, stopping it from hitting her owner’s daughter and niece in the southern city two years ago. The accident left a gaping hole in the two-year old dog’s face. Kabang’s heroic tale prompted an outpouring of sympathy, with fundraising campaigns set up on Facebook and Twitter. Doctors at the University of California operated on Kabang’s wounds, and treated her for a tumour and heartworm. The dog was greeted by a crowd of well-wishers at Manila airport and later reunited with her owner, Rudy Bunggal, in Zamboanga.
