The Directorate General Legal Services of the European Central Bank (ECB) is

Division for a period of four months.

The Lawyer-Linguists Division is responsible for the preparation of the ECB’s
legal acts and instruments in the official languages of the EU, for reviewing
such texts for legal, linguistic and terminological consistency and for
maintaining a legal terminology database.

The Division coordinates the preparation of the ECB’s opinion when the ECB is
consulted on draft national legislative provisions of EU Member States.
Furthermore, the Division’s country rapporteurs provide national legal

services for the Legal Committee (LEGCO).

Objective

experience in legal translation-related tasks.

While at the ECB, the intern will be expected to contribute to the translation
of legal texts from English into Latvian, to revise legal texts in Latvian, and

will also be expected to carry out legal research and to monitor and report on
national legislative developments in Latvia. The intern’s work will be revised
by the staff lawyer-linguist of the Division’s Latvian desk.

The internship is aimed at students or recent graduates with a perfect command
of spoken and written Latvian, excellent English and a very good knowledge of
at least one other official language of the EU.
Candidates must have obtained a university degree in law awarded in a Member
State where Latvian is an official language.
An interest in financial and economic affairs would be an asset.
Due to the nature of the Division’s activities, candidates should have either

interest in translation work.
PC skills and a practical knowledge of standard MS Office applications.
Familiarity with a terminology management package such as TRADOS MultiTerm,

self-motivation and the ability to work as part of a team in a multicultural
environment are very important.
