He learns to smoke 'in the open'

The (Blackfeet) Indian boys on the Glacier National Park reservation don't have to hide 'behind the barn' to get their first smoke. The pipe of Peace is an 'honorable institution' and the young ones are supposed to learn how to puff with poise. But the first smoke doesn't make then sick because they use Kinnikinick instead of tobacco.
