but the guy mourning restaurants
""The signs of recession a r e m o r e n o t i c e a b l e to those who live here in Riga, capital of Latvia – restaurants and coffee shops have lost most of their customers"

must be a true capital-ist. That is, he thinks that states are their capitals, and around is ..just an uncharted totem territory. Of course, for a true analytic going outside capitals to look for some real signs of recession must be too "distressing".

Maybe he just should get real out even more or, in other words, Welcome to my country! as in COUNTRY.

Agreed - an unfortunate ex-pat line. Still, I think his analysis is accurate overall.
By the way, I remember inviting Hansen to come with me to schools and hospitals where I have acquaintances and talk to pensionners I know. He declined saying "I don't think it would be helpful'.

I surely agree to analysis. To spare HIMSELF the slight compromising of its UNQUESTIONABLE worth by absurd side observations, it would suffice just to withhold purely rhetorical comparisons, which turn out desensitivised ad absurdum. Empty cafes we surely can deal with. thank you for your response. and the link. first of all.

That is, I agree to analysis
1. to the limited extent that I am competent to follow the argument.
2. as regards its take on the "technical" state of matters in economy/banking sphere I just have to TRUST its accurac and value of its points. So all I'm saying, this trust is a sensitive matter.

I'm educated in Humanities, you understand. And we here, in that unfortunate idealistic, immaterial sphere, never thought we would have to follow and to be able to follow the goings-on in the spheres that matter politically. Thence the despicable role of our intellectually lazy intelligentsia in the "events" of last 20 years. We are no like, say, brit intellectuals, writers, academics in that respect. Disconnected we are. Disconnected, as euphemism for stupid. No political, economical, practical awareness, nothing. Just greed. For examples, go, say, to appropriation of state resources in the academic sphere - in so called philosophical community as one of the instances.

I thank Shock doctrine I had to translate for my primary political/economical education, otherwise, me too, I would still be wallowing....
