RUSSIAN 80'S SYNTH WAVE, Vol. 2 ================================ 01. Ńåźņīš ćąēą "Źąēą÷ü˙" (1994) Sector Gaza "The Cossack song" actually punks, but this song sounds more like early New Wave with synth melody and powerful guitar sound (and hilarious lyrics at the top) - great opener! --------- 02. Ōīźńņšīņ "Ęčāą˙ āīäą" (1984) Foxtrot "Living water" I know very little of this band, seems like another one from the wave of, ahem, New Wave-styled bands that sprang around 1984 in Soviet underground circles --------- 03. Ōīšóģ "Äąāąéņå ńīēāīķčģń˙" (1984) Forum "Let's call-up" one of the first commercial pop-stars in USSR with strictly New Wave/Romantic image, hugely popular in the mid 80's (esp. their frontman Victor Saltykov - see later) --------- 04. Ž. ×åšķąāńźčé č Ā. Ģąņåöźčé "Šīįīņ" (1983) J. Chernavsky & V. Matetzki "The robot" the studio duo with quirky synth-pop number from their only album "Banana islands", that was a cult record in the mid 80's --------- 05. Ļščģóń "Ņåėåōīķ" (1984) Primus "The telephone" one of the popular mid 80's bands with lots of New Wave synth/electropop stylings, but essentially a songwriter-oriented project --------- 06. Ąšńåķąė "Ģąķčļóė˙ņīš" (1985) Arsenal "The manipulator" very famous Soviet jazz-rock/fusion band experimenting with 80's sounds and rhythms --------- 07. Żėåźņšīźėóį "Ńõīęó ń óģą" (1987) The Electro Club "Going crazy" rather Alphaville-y sounding ballad from this project with very unstable personnal (this time the same frontman as with Forum track) --------- 08. Ņåõķīėīćč˙ "Āńå, ÷ņī ņū õī÷åųü" (1991) Technology "Anything you want" top and quintessential Russian Depeche Mode clones, real superstars in 1991-1993 --------- 09. Arrival "Ļšīńņūå ńėīāą" (1990) Arrival "Simple words" another Depeche Mode wannabies --------- 10. Ķ(īāą˙)Š(óńńźą˙)Ć(šóļļą) "Āšåģ˙ ēīāåņ ģåķ˙" (1990) N(ew)R(ussian)G(roup) "The time calls me" short-lived New Romantic electropop duo that was very popular in the late 80's/early 90's --------- 11. Ļšīłąé, ģīėīäīńņü "Ńžššåąėčēģ" (1987) Goodbye, youth "Surrealism" strange electropop/cabaret duo with A. Vertinsky impersonation frontman; caused a mild sensation in underground rock circles in the late 80's, but vanished very quickly --------- 12. Ķīāą˙ źīėėåźöč˙ "Šīģąķņč÷åńźčé żźńļšåńń" (1988) New Collection "Romantic express" an electronic instrumental project that was very popular in the late 80's and very early 90's, their tracks were quite often used as theme music on TV and radio programs --------- 13. Čķņåšāüž "Šīįīņ" (1987) Interview "The robot" quite a surreal early New Wave number from the band that later became a soft metal one with strong Christian leanings (so-called "white metal") --------- 14. Įčīźīķńņšóźņīš "Żńņåņ" (1989) Bioconstructor "The aesthete" one of the first and best Russian "real" synth-pop bands (black clothes, Kraftwerkian poses, strong technocratic orientation in music and lyrics...) with their top (IMO) song. ========= Notes: Compiled by Vladimir Kruglov aka Passing_Stranger (SoulSeek) Contact me with your questions and suggestions at: russian_synth@mail.ru I'd also love to hear your opinions and thoughts about the music presented by this compilation.
