The problem with the invisible hand is that it's hard to predict anything useful, if it can't be perceived. Therefore there appears to be no way to discern between relatively more or less truthful statements about such things.

Invisible hand bitchslapping can be anything between HoG, dumb coincidence and observer bias -- since we have no way of perceiving what exactly it is, take your pick -- by and large, it is either something people dearly wish to be true or are afraid of, depending on the temperament.
