On 8 December, the European Commission released its Eight Report on relocation and resettlement. On relocation, the EC assesses that much progress has been done since the Seventh Report (9 November), with relocations from Italy increasing after having stalled for months and relocation from Greece having stabilized at 1,000 transfers per months. The EC concludes that it should be feasible to transfer all eligible applicants out of Italy and Greece by September 2017. To achieve that objective, the European Commission calls on Member States to pledge and relocate in line with the targets it has set out in the Report, and to pledge experts for EASO deployment. The European Commission calls on Italy to progressively improve its registration capacity and continue efforts to be able to relocate unaccompanied minors by January 2017. Greece is asked to establish a relocation centre in the Attica region. Additionally, the European Commission also encourages Member States to continue delivering on their resettlement commitments, including as part of the implementation of the EU-Turkey Statement.
