Speer was Adolf Hitler's chief architect and was later made Minister of Armaments and War Production for the Third Reich. After WWII, Speer was tried at Nuremberg and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment, most of it served at West Berlin's Spandau Prison.
He was released in 1966 and died of natural causes in 1981 at the age of 76 while visiting London.
Spandau Ballet were a New Romantic pop group formed in the late 1970s. The group reportedly took the name after journalist Robert Elms saw the phrase daubed on a toilet wall in Berlin, supposedly in reference to the prison.

While still in custody in Spandau, he died by hanging himself in 1987 at the age of 93. After his death, the prison was demolished to prevent it from becoming a neo-Nazi shrine.
