Let's see. If the death rates rise of course, it might not be directly due to Covid. For example, there were stats about a sharp rise in home deaths from heart attacks etc. in the UK as people had stopped going to the doctors/hospital during the lockdowns.

The health services have to be able to cope with heavy use, though. If not - and lockdowns are the accepted manner of dealing with certain viruses - then we are sabotaging economies, tax bases (with increasing debt) to survive the outbreaks - which means diminished ability to invest in the health services ( a viscous circle).

One more point: the UK is committing economic and social hara kiri during a period in which all-cause mortality is considerably lower than that of Latvia (even in a good year).
