I didn't intend to criticize those who work in zoos, nor do I disagree with the concept that a cage is not defined by metal bars. What I wanted to describe was my feelings at that place; in particular the sensation I had when standing next to the pigs (an animal, by the way, quite content in its human prescribed habitat).

I haven't read much Durrel, but I'm broadly familiar with his passion for the natural world.

Still, the lions and tigers really did look mightily pissed off - is that really a case of an absence of log? Let us not generalise.

PS: Generally wanted to try to write in Latvian on this ciba thing, but I'm tired and I assume you understand English :)
