On the other hand isn't it logical to fear that propagated worldview could not only challenge your worldview, but annihilate your whole world? For example, I feel despair every time a person in power speaks about "women's natural place" I see how easy it is to roll back and I wouldn't want to wind up anywhere beyond where I am now. Would you say I'm too fainthearted? Would you say I'm shutting down a discussion if I refuse to get drawn into conversation with a person who states that women aren't really people? Am I cruel if I say that such person shouldn't be given voice via tax-funded media etc.?

I know my example is straw-man, it's just that I want to see the principle, not the exact example as I don't know much about muslims and their state in European countries that are predominantly non-muslim, therefore I can't contribute to this conversation regarding muslims. However I can see why people become jumpy when "provocative" or radical ideas are being expressed. On another hand - I'm no a fan of self-censorship and warped social relation either :D
