Grupas izstāde / Mākslas dienas 2013. Mākslinieka monologs / LMS ēka / 15.04.2013. – 19.05.2013. Ja arī izstādes ietvaros būtu paredzēts aizdedzināt LMS galerijas zāles centrā sakrautās riepas – lai parādītu I.Dobičina uzrunā piesaukto “pigu” pašreizējā mākslas standarta uzturētājiem – diez vai tas īpaši ieinteresētu kādu citu, izņemot VUGD (nelaimes gadījumā zvanīt: 112). Izstādes absolūti demokrātiskais formāts (arī visu atsevišķo radošās brīvības monologu haoss) padara jebkādu kritiku vienlaikus impotentu un bezjēdzīgu. Tādēļ daži personiski zibšņi (nekādā konkrētā secībā): totāla ārpuslaiktelpas katarse Dzīvokļa monologa kičā; divi melanholiski Ivonnas Zīles darbi; solīds mākslas trieciens Anša Butnora “Triecienā”; jūra Oleksija Krasnova vitrāžās; Andra Vītola ieturētā abstrakcija a la 1960tie; Madaras Neikenas (gribas domāt, Liepājas) pludmale; Mētras Seberovas gaišzils-ar-brūnu; Anatolija Zelča “Smilšu madonna”. Even if they were going to burn the pile of tires placed in the centre of the AUL gallery space – to show the middle finger to the current keepers of the artistic standard (from I.Dobičins’ address) – one doubts it would attract the attention of anyone but the firefighters (in case of emergency dial: 112). The absolute democracy (also, the chaos of all the separate monologues of creative freedom) of the exhibition renders any critique both impotent and pointless. So here is a personal list of highlights (in no particular order): the cathartic obliteration of space-time by kitsch in the Apartment’s Monologue; two melancholy canvases by Ivonna Zīle; a solid kunst-kick from Ansis Butnors’ “Attack”; the sea in Oleksijs Krasnovs’ stained glass; Andris Vītols’ abstraction a la 1960s; Madara Neikena’s (would like to think, it's Liepāja) seaside; Mētra Seberova's pale-blue-with-brown; “The Sand Madonna” by Anatolijs Zelčs. ☝ |

Alnis Stakle / Biežņa / LNMM Arsenāla Radošā darbnīca / 05.04.2013 – 24.04.2013. Pārsteidzoši domāt, ka Aļņa Stakles izstādes tekstu dažs uzskata par sarežģītu. Un, protams, ironiski, ka, lai pietuvotos “mākslai”, ir “jāsabojā” fotogrāfija, bet reproducējama medija klātbūtne jāstimulē ar audioceliņu. Ja arī tas viss būtu tikai intelektuāla konstrukcija un spēle, tas tomēr ir sasodīti aizraujoši. Perplexing to hear people refer to Alnis Stakles’ essay as complex. And, of course, it is ironic that photography has to be “spoilt” to become “art”, while the presence of a reproducible medium is stimulated by a soundtrack. Even if it were merely a game, an intellectual fabrication, it is damn exciting all the same. ☝☝☝☝ |

Unikāli būvkadri jeb Piecas minūtes līdz arhitek… / Latvijas Arhitektūras muzejs / 02.04.-26.04.2013 Vēl viens pietiekoši atzīstams mēģinājums ļoti ierobežotos apstākļos piedāvāt kaut ko maksimāli negarlaicīgu. Telpā, kuras galvenā sūtība, iespējams, ir padarīt arhitektūras pieminekļa interjeru pieejamu tūristiem, tas nav maz. Šoreiz teksti ar diezgan reklāmisku intonāciju. Another reasonable attempt to be inventive with very limited means in a space whose main mission may well be to make the interior of a historic building accessible to tourists. Unikāli būvkadri jeb Piecas minūtes līdz arhitektūrai / Latvijas Arhitektūras muzejs / 02.04.-26.04. Arhitektūras muzejā parasti ir t.s. 'plakātu' izstādes, kas kopā ar kādu mutisku tēmas izklāstu ļoti labi varētu aiziet kā akadēmiska "plakātprezentācija". Tēmas parasti - arī šoreiz - ir rosinošanas un arhitektūras dažādos aspektus ļoti labi uzrādošas, taču pasniegšanas formāts prasa īpašu vēlmi tajā visā iedziļināties (varbūt labāk digitalizēt?). The Latvian architecture museum usually hosts exhibitions which could pose as an academic "poster presentations" if a proper spoken commentary could be added. Also the subject matter of LAM exhibitions are stimulating and really engaging, also this particular one. The only drawback is that the presentation manner requires a genuine interest to be able to endure the necessity to stand and basically - read. ☝ |

Andris Vēzis / Pelēkā amens stāsti / Rīgas Porcelāna muzejs / 04.04.2013 - 24.04.2013 Materiāla pikuči ir reizē stingri un amorfi/nestabili, bet krāsu un tekstūru kombinācijas ir vēlo modernistu abstrakcija telpā. Negaidīti un aizraujoši. Līdzās izstādītās ragveida struktūras uz šī fona liekas drīzāk šaubīgas. Lumps of material ar both rigid and amorphous/contaminating, while the combinations of colours and textures recall late/post-modernist abstraction with an extra dimension. Unexpected and captivating. The pipe-shaped structures appear a tad suspect in comparison. ☝☝☝☝ |

Edvīns Kalnenieks / Atmiņas par lauku mājām / Daugava / 10.04.2013. - 11.05.2013. Ja par izstādes darbiem varētu domāt tikai kā par noteiktā tehnikā apstrādātu plakni, nebūtu īpaši jāšaubās. Bet cilvēciskā vēlme radīt un saskatīt attēlus šeit nenāk par labu. Klusajām dabām, lauku mājām un pašportretam nav ne vainas (ja arī sasaucas ar Imantu Vecozolu vai Borisu Bērziņu), tomēr stilizētās dāmas ir īpaši briesmīgas. If only one could think of these works as a picture plane, worked in a particular technique, there would be little doubt as to their credentials. The all too human desire to make and see images, though, is rather unflattering here. Nothing particularly wrong with the still-lifes, the country scenes or the self-portrait (regardless of the parallels to Imants Vecozols and Boriss Bērziņš), but the stylised ladies are rather dreadful. ☝☝☝ |

Edvīns Kalnenieks / Atmiņas par lauku mājām / Daugava / 10.04.2013. - 11.05.2013. Un atkal - var jau teikt, ka dvako pēc padomju laikiem, kas šobrīd esot senili, bet tas kaut kā nešķiet svarīgi. Aizraujošāka ir meistarība un cimperlīgās tehnikas - pasteļa - pārvaldīšana. One could claim that these works are a bit too senile, they possess something from the Soviet period, but somehow this objection doesn't seem valid. It is more thrilling to meet with the artistic mastery and the skill of pastel painting. ☝☝☝☝ |

Edgars Soprāns / R12 – Z13 / Latvijas Mākslas akadēmija, "Mana telpa" / 09.04.2013.-19.04.2013. Ir patīkami redzēt, ka studenti pievēršas “jaunajai” glezniecības valodai un ļauj visiem Grūbēm un Heinrihsoniem līdz pēdējam krāsas ekspresijā ieķepušajam matam izkopt savu “veco” valodu. Tomēr šī izstāde – gan telpas, gan darbu dēļ – nepārliecina. Jāstrādā. It is reassuring to see students turning to the “new” language in painting, leaving all the Grūbes and the Heinrihsonses of this country to pursue their “old” language to the last hair trapped under the expressive brushwork. Nevertheless – both because of space and the works themselves – the show is not compelling. Work in progress. ☝☝ |

Konkurss ZELTA ĀBELE. Atjaunotās Latvijas grāmatu māksla 20 gados / LMA / 05.04.2013.-25.04.2013. Grāmatas ir daiļas un garu sildošas – gan stendos, gan gaismas tornī (mazliet atsauc Andra Brežes personālizstādes). Mākslas darbus lielākoties aizēno to mazais mērogs un utilitārais (=literārais) raksturs. The books are handsome and warm to the spirit – both in the display cases and the tower of light (somewhat reminiscent of Andris Breže's solo show). The artworks mostly are overshadowed by their small scale and utilitarian (=literary) nature. ☝☝☝ |

Konkurss ZELTA ĀBELE. Atjaunotās Latvijas grāmatu māksla 20 gados / LMA / 05.04.2013.-25.04.2013. Plejāde ar zināmiem un mazāk zienāmiem gleznotājiem un grafiķiem, kuri ir ilustrējuši grāmatas - oriģināldarbi eksponēti pie sienas. Vitrīnās 20 gados godalgotās grāmatas. Acīmredzot, kad autoram ir dots konkrēts, funkcionāls uzdevums, rezultāts izdodas ievērojami pārliecinošāks, nekā, kad jārada "pašam no sevis". Arī šo daudzo autoru darbi vienā izstādē kaut kā labi sapas kopā.. varbūt šī paša iemesla dēļ. Original prints and paintings of a bunch of well- as well as lesser known painters and graphic artists who have illustrated books are exhibited on the walls. Awarded books exhibited in the vitrines. Apparently if the artist has a specific, functional task to work on, he or she will present way better output then if left alone. Maybe this is why the exhibition - regardless the numerous artists and works it features - work well together as a totality. ☝☝☝☝☝ |

Tatjana Krivenkova / galerija Māksla XO / ? Droši vien tā ir galerijas Māksla XO kolekcijas izstāde, jo līdz ar neatributētām skulptūrām izstādīti ir arī Tatjanas Krivenkovas darbi - gleznas. Zinot T.Krivenkovas grafikas darbus, lietišķās mākslas apgleznojumus, tajā ļoti labi ierakstās arī gleznas, taču, ja būtu pirmo reizi jāierauga tieši šīs gleznas tieši šādā salikumā, iespaids nebūtu labs. most probably this is an exhibition from the "Māksla XO" gallery collection. T.Krivenkova's paintings are exhibited together with some unattributed figurines. If one has seen Krivenkova's graphic art works, applied art decors and has some general idea about what it's all about then these works would 'fit' into the big picture quite ok. But if these were the first thing to encounter from T.Krivenkova's oeuvre then the impression might be not too impressive to say the least ☝☝ |

Vitālijs Jermolajevs, Laija-Laura Ozoliņa / Ceļojums Visumā / t/c Galleria Riga / ? Lielveikalam atbilstošas mūzikas pavadībā, divos konstanti secīgos apgaismojumos no šīs telpas plūst maigs kičs. Ja “netradicionālajā” izgaismojumā šeit saglabājas zināma maģija, tad tradicionālajā ir tikai traģika. Gandrīz trīs gadi pagājuši, bet joprojām grūti aptvert, ka Jermolajeva darbi tikuši izstādīti RMT Intro zālē. Accompanied by music so fitting to a shopping centre, in two sequentially changing lightings, tender kitsch oozes from this space. Even if there is a certain amount of magic in the less traditional lighting, the traditional one is merely tragic. Three years since the fact, it is still difficult to grasp, that Jermolajevs’ works have been on display in the Intro hall of the Riga Art Space. ☟ |

Vitālijs Jermolajevs, Laija-Laura Ozoliņa / Ceļojums Visumā / t/c Galleria Riga / ? uz mīlestības ieleju, kur pasaku valstībā visi sapņi piepildās L.L.Ozoliņai uzteicama amata prasme un neatlaidība, bet kopumā neonā izgaismotā un ņūeidža 'pasaules mūzikas' apskaņotā ekspozīcija var tikt notirgota "Mistēriju" lasošai auditorijai... sakara ar mākslu te nav nekāda. Down into the valley of love Where all the dreams may come true In the kingdom of fairytales L.L.Ozolina may be a good and persistent craftswoman, but the exhibition - lit in neon lights and with new - age type of world music playing in the background - can be pleasing to the readers of "The Mystery" magazine at best. Ivars Miķelsons / Rotaļas ar dzīvnieku ekskrementiem / Istaba / 02.04.2013 - 27.04.2013 Izstādes anotācija uzsver joku un gadījuma estētiku, nosaukums izceļ infantilu kreativitāti, bet izstādīta Bidstrupa karikatūras reprodukcija akcentē reakcionāru skatu uz modernisma tēlniecību. Šeit nav ne Pjero Manconi žesta, ne Vīnes akcionistu katarses, nav pat Pētera Sidara abstraktā ekspresionisma parafrāzes. Rezultātā, ir neiespējami izvairīties no skatoloģijas izstādes vērtējumā. The press release foregrounds joke and chance aesthetics, the title underlines infantile creativity, while the reproduction of Herluf Bidstrup's cartoon, also on display, offers a reactionary view on Modernist sculpture. This is neither Piero Manzoni's gesture, nor Viennese Actionist catharsis, and not even Pēteris Sidars' paraphrase of Abstract Expressionism. Hence, it is impossible to avoid scatology in evaluating this exhibition. ☝☝ |
