In the 2003/2004 school year, 741 schools in Latvia had Latvian as the sole language of instruction, 159 schools had Russian (implementing a Russian-Latvian bilingual education programme), and in 138 schools had both classes where instruction was in Latvian only (Latvian classes), and others where it was in Russian (bilingual education programme - minority classses). There were 4 Polish, 2 Hebrew, 1 Ukrainian, 1 Estonian, 1 Lithuanian and 1 Belorussian schools, and separate classes in 2 schools taught in Romany.
