In Europe it is considered terribly rude to send your sick children out to infect others, and showing up at the office with a serious cold will get you shunned as well. At the very least, the boss would strongly "suggest" that you take a sick day.

In Japan, even venturing out in to open public spaces demands that the sick person wear a face mask to minimize the amount of airborne hazard to others.
