I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand “I have a problem, it is the Government’s job to cope with it!” or “I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!” “I am homeless, the Government must house me!” and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first… There is no such thing as society. There is living tapestry of men and women and people and the beauty of that tapestry and the quality of our lives will depend upon how much each of us is prepared to take responsibility for ourselves and each of us prepared to turn round and help by our own efforts those who are unfortunate.

Pastāvošās kārtības stūrakmens ir pārspīlēts individuālisms; cilvēki kā Robinsoni Krūzo uz salas (“nav tāda ‘mēs’”); uzsvars uz mikro-risinājumiem (glābt klimatu, šķirojot savus atkritumus), uz personisko atbildību, un noniecināta strukturāla analīze un strukturālu izmaiņu iespēja vai nepieciešamība.

Sabiedrība neko būtībā neiemācījās no iepriekšējām krīzēm (kā no 2008. gada), un tās tika izmantotas, lai pagrieztu spīles ciešāk; privāti uzņēmumi kā Parex tika glābti, un izmaksas uzņēmās visa sabiedrība kopumā; tas tika izmantots kā iemesls ieviest taupības politiku, kas visvairāk skar visneaizsargātāko sabiedrības daļu, kurai vienlaicīgi ir vismazāk teikšanas par pastāvošo kārtību.

Finanšu politika atkal tiek brīvi pielietota, lai glābtu privāto jomu (piem., AirBaltic nupat saņēma 150 miljonus); tiek veidotas lielas naudas plūsmas ar nosacītu atbildību, kā tās tiks pielietotas vai nāks sabiedrībai par labu, lai gan tās sedz sabiedrība kopumā. Ja jau AirBaltic ir kritiski nozīmīgs sabiedrībai un attiecīgi glābjams, varbūt tam būtu jābūt nacionalizētam uzņēmumam, nevis pakārtotam privātām interesēm? Par to netiek runāts; tā vietā cilvēki pat tagad turpina “bīdīt” vēl plašāku privatizāciju un sapņo par vairāk veiksmes stāstiem kā Dienvidu tilts.
