A film student has admitted carrying out a series of "eat-and-run" thefts at London restaurants to impress his "high maintenance" girlfriend.

Latvian Janis Nords, 28, pleaded guilty to nine counts of not paying for goods and services - £5,000 restaurant bills - when he appeared before Westminster magistrates.

Nords and his girlfriend, who was not named, went to L'Oranger in St James's, running up a food and drinks bill of £1,021.
