The series presents two parallel dramas. The main storyline, set in 2006, follows the events of the Caleigh family who rent Crickley Hall because Gabe Caleigh gets a short contract in the area; the other is a series of flashbacks following events in 1943 when orphans – who have been evacuated from London during WWII – are living at Crickley Hall.
