In school we are systematically forced to display our knowledge in proximity to preexisting factoids. I resent having to hold up a placard with a certain stripe as if to say, "YES, I'M AWARE OF THIS, I CAN PROVE IT!" It is nothing short of invasive, manipulative bullshit. In our adult lives, we continue to defer to this crap. We bow to cultural references. We "show our work", we "prove the theorems", we "cite our references". Am I the only one who thinks this is fucking imbecilic?? Who the fuck told you you had to be scared shitless of entirely stepping outside of the masturbatory quid-pro-quo intelligentsia? You tell me which is more ugly and reprehensible: being an island, or bleating formulae? DO YOU EXIST OR NOT????? |
