...and it made me wonder if it's even possible to cure people of their political apathy. Without doing this representative democracy seems like a farce of a popularity contest, nothing more. Democratic principles on our lips but not a single effort to guard it, we choose rulers on the basis on who will be better to subsume the spirit of the ones who choose.
The only thing that has proven to do pull people out of this stagnation is any form of autocracy. Today I'd choose the best autocracy over the worst democracy, even if they were on equal terms my choice would remain the same. Or just try a new, more interesting system with a charismatic and capable leader(s) to shake things up a bit.
But in the end I have not studied politics and I am an idealist. I long for the perfect world where rational anarchism would be possible. No matter if it would put me in the position of sweeping sidewalks or terraforming Mars, as long as it allows me to remain an information junkie.
Not much of a rant tonight, but I the great third Wednesday of the month cleaning makes one tired. Note to self: return to the subject later.
