Hello, dear participants of our common "LAND",

It’s time to start our work. The task you are welcome to create and submit to http://klab.lv/users/latnorland/ is as follows: You are two groups participating- Norwegians and Latvians.

Stage 1

Use your knowledge, imagination, expectations... Do not worry if you think your knowledge might not be perfect! This is we are here to get to know both- our countries, schools, each other! )

Submit your writings using the button: "Leave a comment". As you are not registered members of that blog, do not forget to sign your name, otherwise your writing will appear as anonymous. Do not hesitate to ask whether to Ms Ewa or me whenever you need our help or support.

Stage 2

Choose one blog (writing) from your partner's team, read it and, using button "Reply", comment on your peer's writing. Agree with him/her, disagree, and, finally, tell a little about your country and yourself! Thus we will see if our concepts about Latvia and Norway had been close to reality.

At first I need tell you, why I’m writing this my opinion about your country (Norway) and what I know about it. Why? Because, I think, first thing what people need do, when they starts talk, is get to know about other people state. And if I’m wrong about something – please – correct me.
What I know about Norway? Actually - nothing much. Once my godfather was at Norway with tourists and he brought me souvenir – little troll. He told me some legends about mountain caves, trolls, who live in this caves and many little tracks who rambles all over hills. He told me about special troll tracks and about beautiful landscape who can see from many places in Norway.
I don’t know a lot of things about Norway, but I really want know more. I think, Norway is beautiful and great country, so, I’d love to know all interesting and nice about this place. But, especially, I want to know something more about Norway trolls. I think they are interesting and magical creatures.
I’d like to hear something from you. With best wishes - I will wait answer.
      Signe from Latvia.

I am writing to tell how I imagine and what I know about your country to show my knowledge about your country and things I don’t know. Beforehand I am saying sorry if I wrote something wrongly about Norway therefore please correct them, me.
I know that Norway is a country in North Europe in west of the Scandinavian Penisula. Norway has a border line with Sweden in east. I have seen a lot of beautiful pictures from Norway because my brother worked there. Norway has a lot of beautiful landscapes with mountains, green trees and with more green plants. Thought all those pictures where taken in summer so I haven’t seen how does Norway look in winter but I hope to see it. I don’t much about sports in Norway but because of Norway’s climate I would say that there in Norway winter games like hockey, skiing, are popular and football also might be popular. Norway’s climates have cold winters and cool summers. I don’t much about Norwegian music or literature you could even say that I don’t know anything about music or literature. I would like to know more about literature than music.
I would like to hear answer from you. With best regards Andris from Latvia.

Norwegian literature: our greatest, world-famous writers are Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun. Have you learnt anything about them in your literature classes?

Music: Haven`t you heard about our famous pop-band, a-ha?

Actually not. Could you tell me something about Latvian music and kiterature? Film?
          • Re: ..

            (Anonymous)
I’m interest in Latvian folk music, but if you like to use internet, then visit website youtube.com and try to find video with title “es redzeju rigas pili” and then you can hear Latvian folk music and see our folkdances. Personally I really love watch folkdances.
Our films are little cheerless, but it’s because all Latvian films are based on real life situations. But our literati are really great. At least I think so. Like Rainis, Aspazija. I guess you haven’t heard about them, right? So, what else you want know?

In Norway there are a lot of mountains. (The highest is 2469 meters above m.s.l)
There are also a lot of trees and lakes here. In winter there are a lot of snow many places. Norway is a quite small country and there are not many people that live here.

We don`t know anything about Latvia but we think it is a small country with almoust no mountains and a lot of fields and farms with cows and sheep.

One day teacher say my class about this fellowship project and say that we are write about Norway who we know about this country. And then I think about that who I know about this country. I don’t know very much about Norway because this country isn’t my dream land, but I know a bit of Norway.
I know that there are very big mountains, towns that are set in mountains, a long road that are extending in mountain. Also I know that there are very rough winter and snow that look like brilliant what all the time glitter. Of course I know that in mountain live troll. When I look at picture where Norway is seem that there are very beautiful landscapes because big mountains and woodland look like in dream.
I want to know about Norway sportsman and about sporting forms in Norway. Also I want to know about Norwegian vital style and habits. Of course I want to know about Norway famous persons.
At finally I think the Norway lands are very beautiful because there are very much places whose isn’t desolate.
And I would like to hear of you some thinks what you now about my country.

  • Hi,

I am writing to tell you what I know about your country. Actually, I have never been there and my knowledge about your country is very low.
Norway associates me with beautiful nature, huge open space, fjords and of course snow at the top of the mountains. One of my dreams, which I want to realize someday, is crossing Arctic Circle and going to North Cape to see northern lights. In real life it could look much better than in photos. My brother once told me that in every souvenir store he saw trolls, of course not alive, but puppet trolls.
It is true, that Norwegian is very similar to Swedish? I think your language sounds very nice. Of course, I don’t understand any word, but it could be very useful for me to learn something in Norwegian.
Anyway, I hope to hear something from you about Latvia as soon as possible.
    With best regards,
    Tina.
    • Re: Hi,

      (Anonymous)
Yes, Norwegian is quite similar to Swedish. Norwegian people can understand Swedish people and the other way round about. Is Latvian similar to Lithuanian? Do Latvian people speak Russian (I know that Latvia was a part of the Soviet Union before)?

      Anne
      • Re: Hi,

Yes, they are quite similar. I can only catch an idea of that what some Lithuanian has sad. But if you can't understand any of these languages, you'll heard that they are very similar.
Yes, Latvian people speak Russian too. Luckily, I have born in the most Latvian city in all country and to hear Russian language is quite impossible. At school we have subject - Russian language, but if we want, we can learn German too.
        • Re: Hi,

          (Anonymous)
Is it obligatory to learn Russian at school or can you choose between Russian and German, etc. ? When do you start learning English at Latvian schools?
          • Re: Hi,

We can choose between Russian and German, but schools that are smaller sometimes offers to learn only Russian, because there is not enough students who wants to take German.
English starts (if I'm not wrong) at form 3.
How it is in Norwegian schools?
            • Re: Hi,

              (Anonymous)
We start learning English in primary school. English is an obligatory subject, but later on you can also choose between other foreign languages like, e.g., French, German, Spanish (that depends on the school you go to).

What do I think about Norway? I think it's beautifully country because you have mountains. In Latvia we have hills. Biggest is 311 meter high. Big, isn't it? Once I was in Slovakia in Tatri. That was something amazing! You're very lucky. And the nature is amazing! I've seen some pictures. And what about you're roofs of houses? There are some flowers growing up? I think you're very kind people because my geography teacher said that you don't lock you're doors if you live in mountains so that someone who needs to drink could do it. Is it true? Of course yours stories about trolls and fairies. Funny I think. I don't know any of these stories but maybe someone could write me some. To sum up I really don't know much about Norway. So it would be very nice to get to know something more. Greetings from Latvia! Inese

    Norway.
The first things I imagine are sea, indescribable views from top of the mountains and color blue, like sky. I really think your country is very beautiful and fascinating. I have heard a lot about Norway.
My cousin lived there about 2 years. She said there are no better feelings than those which you have when you take a walk and just enjoy Norway nature. She almost decided to stay there because of silence and Norwegian lifestyle. Also I heard cyclists and pedestrians rule rather than cars. I would like it definitely. In my opinion it is much healthier.
Like some of my classmates I don’t know anything about Norwegian literature, culture and music, but as I am hockey fan, I remember that our team played with Norwegians last year, so maybe we have something common if we talk about hockey. It sounds funny but I would like to know something more about your traditional foods, it may be interesting. I make a guess and say that it contains fish foods. Is it so? Anyway, Norway as country seems like one of those places where you can spend your vacation time with family. It attracts with nature, landscapes and waters closeness. Water quiets down. It is really first thing which associates with Norway.
I would like to hear what you know about my country.
    Regards from Latvia!

When I’m thinking about Norway, I imagine Scandinavian Penisula and vikings. Some years ago I been in Finland, Sweden and Denmark but I doesn’t visited Norway. I realy want go to the Norway because I know – it’s realy beautiful country.

I think Norway fjords are one of most beautiful natural values in the world. I seen pictures from Norway and it was amazing – big mountains and blue water like a sky. I don’t know why but Norway culture associates me with trolls. I was heard many legends about trolls and I think it is big, pacific creature. About sport I know Norway has great ice hockey team and I think it will be interesting game Norway vs. Latvia. All Norway can be proud with Andreas Thorkildsen because he was amazing in Beijing. About Norway peoples I think it’s very kindly and sympathetic. One time in Smiltene I met family from Norway and they wanted to know where is lake in Smiltene. I told they about Teperis (lake in Smiltene) and they were very grateful and kindly. I hope some time visited Norway and have a good time.

I would like to hear some things about Latvia.
    All the best, Kristaps.

Honestly, I don’t know much about Norway, but I have some visions and thoughts. So first, this country reminds me about long and turning roads next to beautiful nature that goes up to hill. Another thing is mountains with snow on tops and little flowers somewhere. Is there mountain goats? My vision of Norway looks like dream-Big mountain and in foot of a mountain, big lake that looks like crystal mirror. Of course trolls. That’s popular souvenir, I guess. But when I was a child, I remember Vikings-ships with shields and people wearing helmets with horns. I heard that people are kind in Norway. That’s obviously a plus. One of my relative has been in Norway. He said “It was worth it. From beginning to the end.” Oh, another thing is rivers. Fjords, I think. Those are very beautiful, when they go in the foot of a mountain. It could be fantastic excursion, traveling with that ship near beautiful nature.

Oh, in Latvia we have loads of wood. In fact, forests are the most beautiful thing in here. Driving in Latvia’s country, what you can see is huge, beautiful forests. I just love nature here. And we have fields for cows too. Milk is delicious. Little farms, because people are giving hard work to keep them in good condition. I have heard about strawberries work. Great :)
I don’t understand Norwegian language, but that site is fine. That sounds great about farming school. Do you have any animals there?

I imagine that Latvia is a poor country and the people have houses in bad conditions. they are yodeling in Latvia. Latvia is i small country, like Norway. The territory of Latvia covers 64,589kvadra. The territory of Latvia has been populated since 9000 BC, after the Ice Age glaciers retreated. Around the beginning of the third millennium BC (3000 BC) the proto-Baltic ancestors of the Latvian people settled on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.[6] The Balts established trade routes to Rome and Byzantium, trading local amber for precious metals.t kilometer. The 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries were a time of great changes for the inhabitants of Latvia, notable for the reformation, the collapse of the Livonian state, and time when the Latvian territory was carved up among foreign powers. Good morning folks. The first I think and Latvia is high mountains with big lakes between the mountains. The people are not so poor, but they live in small white houses at the lakes. Latvia is not so similar to Norway, but with much higher mountains. I remember the cities are very colour full, and small. Is yodel some thing at your folk music? I am not sure. In Latvia there is many fishers who fishing in the beautiful lakes. And pull up big trout’s and Salomon’s.
In the houses to the very rich people it is big rose gardens that are very beautiful.

It’s great, that you have so good impression about Latvia. Something actually is true. But our folk music is different. There isn’t any yodeling. But even I like fishing. Just for fun, but its good way for relaxing. People in Latvia really have roses in their gardens. And not just rich people.

Hi! About Norway... About Norway I know from geography’s lessons. Like Norway’s conture looks like tiger. Or fjords – beuatiful landscapes, water blueness and sun’s gleam. Or trolls- amazing, mistic creatures who live in high mountains. Or maybe the Vikings – pirates who, actually, first discovered America.
I know famous Norway composer Edvard Grieg with composition Morning, sportist- biathlete Bjoerndalen and Andreas Thorkildsen. Norwey reminds me big mountains, big -by the side Latvia’s mountains, and very, very cold climate. (very)
From friends, who some year before was in Norway, stories. There are big mountains and when we go on the bus up to narrow road we feel like this is the last day in my life. :D
To sum up, I want to visit this country myself and see this with my eyes, not in pictures.

Hey! So now we are in Norway are supposed to write what we know and think about your country. I have to admit that I don't know much about Latvia, but I'll try to tell a bit of what I've heard. If you want, I would appreciate that you comment my message and tell me more about your country.
Okei. Now I'll try. Latvia is in Europe and it boards Estonia and Lithuania. I've heard a lot of Estonia and that country I thought sounds more sad and poor. I think you in Latvia have more money and a landscape there is more manifold. You have more farms in Latvia and bigger places. I think you're not so poor as many say, but what do I know?
I've heard about that many travel to Latvia on Holidays and sometime I want to go there, too. I like to see other countries and how other people live. So one day you'll se me ;) I want to know more about Latvia, so if some of you would comment my message and tell me something about Latvia, that would be nice. Can you tell me a bit about the farming, music, landscape and how you usually live in Latvia? :)

There are many beautiful lakes and some great mountains where in winter we can ski or snowboard.  My favorite places in our country are woods. I like that we have big and adorable. Hey people ! Bk is writing. I am a 16 year old girl, who lives in Norway! : D

My favourite hobby is riding my horse. I've got a 16 year old x-trotter who just love to trott. Well, I want to talk about the theme riding.

Riding is a sport who takes a lots of time and patience. The feeling of having control over those enormous horse powers, its just uniqe and unexplainable. When you ride a horse, you must always remenber that it's a living animal. Never be to hard, or too gently. You must learn the horse how to respect you, in a gently way. I'm not going to write all i know about horses, because it is al lot random. When i write random, i meen a lot of stuff i've just picked up here and there. Nothing much to talk about I guess.

Well, as I was going to write. I have a red – brown horse named Eden's Kark. He is a 16 year old gelding. He doesn't know all the signs when i ride him, but he learns quickly! When he starts galopping, the world around me flash away. It's just me, my horse and the road in front of us. If you haven't tried it by you're self, you dont know the feeling. It's just the two of us, against the rest of the world.

Riding isn't my only passion. I also like music and I just LOVE to sing : ) Can't say I'm any good, but who cares? My shower head is very impressed!
My favorite band is Sonata Arctica, but a also listen to pop and some heavy metal.

Well, I wrote something aboute me, and my hobby. Maybe some about my feelings, but who cares? As long i get to be me, and nobody else, I'm happy!

Love yah all! § BK §
