Sanāca ne gluži pelde, bet vanna cietos ledus gabalos ar skatu debesīs, kur mākoņstarpās mirdzēja stindzinoši vientuļas zvaigznes. Pirmajā reizē sagriezu kājas uz ledus asajām škautnēm, otrajā biju gudrāks un izlauzu ceļu ar baļķi. Mežā valdīja tāds dziļais klusums, un vienīgā dzīvā būtne tur bija kāda prostitūta, kura kaut ko meklēja krūmos pie upes. Un tomēr, jo vairāk es tiecos pēc sajūtas, kas padara dzīvu, jo vairāk apzinos, ka skatos spogulī, kur šī pati sajūta padara mirušu. :
