I think the real question is what ISN'T an illness according to the modern field of psychology?

Because what is happening here is that due to the materialist and deterministic world view of modernity, where morality and free will are not acknowledged as true concrete realities, anything that "diverges" from whatever is supposed to be the standard for neuronormativity is ipso facto an "illness". It's not a matter of determining what constitutes a real illness (and to be sure there are illnesses out there) and what constitutes a moral failing, since the latter possibility is excluded a priori.

Thus, a serial killer, someone who takes pleasure in the act of killing others, is affected by some kind of "disorder" as opposed to possessing a demonic and deviated soul.
