This will not go away, unless he does something really radical which is never gonna happen. His unapologetic attachement to Israel is also a big issue for the younger base, now that they finally realised what a rotten corpse this little country is.

-This isn't really the same thing though. Our military bases in Germany/Djibouti/Jordan/etc are not there for the purpose of enforcing colonial rule and resource extraction.
-The largest way it truly differs is in how obfuscated the power is. The US military is still there to enforce boundaries of the US empire policy they just aren't the first go to tool to exert it. It looks impossible to conflate because the US is not a typical historical empire - instead of material resource extraction like the British, the US gains power and influence from its vassals via usury and spreading dollar debt burdens to fuel insane US spending. Using covert tools such as the CIA and NGOs is a much more stable way to exert power as america does.
The end result however is arguably worse given that financialization does not leave behind anything actually useful. Indians and Africans for a time could use infrastructure left behind by prior empires. Nothing america leaves behind that is permanent is of any value.
The most important thing is that none of the countries are sovereign either. Most frequently the Global American Empire pursues policies that run completely counter to any interest of said occupied country.
